Cutting Business Cost: Ten Tips to Boost Your Business this 2011

The grinding economy is forcing more and more business owners to consider cutting down on their business cost. Some have downsized their companies by laying off employees while others have downsized their products and other perks that they often offer with their services. These are drastic measures but there is more than you can do to cut down your cost without necessarily sacrificing your employee (and their future) and your product quality. Here are some:

1.       Establish a barter relationship with other business. Small company owners are now bartering their products and services and this mutually beneficial relationship is now becoming more popular. Of course, you can exchange the things that you produce to other company’s products that you need.

2.       Subscribe to online fax. Online fax uses the internet to send and receive fax messages. No hard fax machines required with online fax and with no hardware to maintain (or buy if you’re a new fax user), you can significantly cut down your cost on your monthly phone bill, inventories (fax papers, ink, toners, etc.) and time. Online fax also increases your employee’s productivity so they can produce more in less time.

3.       Subscribe to VoIP. Just like online fax services, VoIP can provide your company with lesser cost while increasing productivity. This is also perfect for companies who have overseas contacts as VoIP can positively impact your overseas call costs.

4.       Opt for Recycled Printer Cartridges. It’s quite amazing to note that printer ink is listed as among the most expensive liquids on Earth. Of course, the high cost of this liquid is only applicable if you will always opt for original printer cartridges. Try to purchase recycled cartridges or have your printed modified to use only low-cost inks. If you do, you can save as much as fifty percent in your overall printing cost.

5.       Carefully monitor the electricity that you consume. At the end of your office hours, have all your employees turn off their equipments and unplugging them from the source. Monitors who are shut down but left plugged still consumes electricity because of the ghost current. It would also help to turn off the lights on your conference room if you’re not using them.

6.       Consider evaluating your insurance coverage every year. It would not hurt to evaluate your insurance coverage and shopping for other insurance providers who might offer the same coverage for a lower price. Insurance can be pretty costly but it’s an investment that you can’t do without.

These are just some of the things that you can do for your company to cut down on your cost. While the savings that you will get may not be as immediate as you hope it would be, you’ll realize in the long run that it’s all worth it.
